A Clot of Yarn

A Clot of Yarn began as a response to a series of poems, published in the chapbook, Forest Suite, both of which were presented together on December 6, 2016, in the Neighbourhood Time Exchange/Downtown Prince George site at 1118 George Street. The work allowed me to bring together my written and visual arts practice in a completely new way.

Forest Suite is a narrative told in poetic form. It tells of a journey through psychological and actual terrain – a wilderness that is both real and remembered. It is also a love song to the land, a survivalist proposition, and an emergency shelter from reality.

“A Clot of Yarn” is a line from the fourth movement from the poems in Forest Suite. It takes the notion of yarn, something crafty and comforting, and gives it an enigmatic and cryptic presence. It is both a mystery and a hindrance but guides the protagonist’s journey.
